Location: Primarily the KGH Site; may be assigned duties at the HDH Site
Reporting to the Manager – Annual Programs, the Senior Development Officer (Direct Marketing) designs and implements a program soliciting community support for the partner hospitals through direct mail, telephone solicitation, memorial and tribute giving, unaddressed Admail techniques and online giving as well as works to secure gifts in the range of $2,500 - $5, 000 through customized face to face solicitation. The Senior Development Officer also provides recommendations to the Manager, Annual Programs and Development Services, on tactics to coordinate and integrate all elements of the annual programs portfolio to ensure optimal growth of donation revenue. From time to time, the Senior Development Officer, Direct Marketing, may be delegated authority to carry out specific responsibilities normally belonging to the Manager – Fund Development.
As a member of the Annual Programs and Stewardship team, this position may be called upon to participate in and support the fundraising efforts, events, stewardship, and recognition activities of the team.
Within this role the Sr. Development Officer – Direct Marketing is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the UHKF strategic plan including:
offering an inspiring, donor-centered giving experience,
mobilizing highly sophisticated fundraising techniques in way that reflects the distinct philanthropic culture of our region
ensuring consistent high quality outcomes through exceptional process management
bringing to life new models of leadership
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES:
In collaboration with the Manager – Annual Programs, designs a solicitation program that provides opportunities for past donors, prospective donors, and discharged patients to make contributions to priority needs at all partner hospitals.
Implements solicitation programs through developing solicitation letters, publications, and telephone solicitation programs seek financial support for the partner foundations.
Recommends strategic use of database to achieve solicitation program goals.
Face to face solicitation for mid-level donors
Recommends methods for linking with Events, Major Gifts, Planned Giving and Tribute programs, to ensure maximum effectiveness of all programs.
Serves as “in house expert” for all mass mailings.
Occasionally assumes short-term specific supervisory and managerial responsibilities as delegated by the Manager - Annual Programs.
Suggests improvements to UHKF policies, procedures and systems to ensure the overall effectiveness of the organization.
Pursues professional development and continuing education opportunities as well as seeking informal opportunities to expand professional knowledge through consultation with peers.
Adheres to worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other policies which govern this position
Understands, is familiar with, and complies with all pertinent UHKF policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct, confidentiality and donor privacy, decision authority, conflict of interest, compliance with Canada Revenue Agency regulations and the Donor Bill of Rights.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in administration or communications or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered
Minimum 5 years related professional experience in institutional and/or not-for-profit environments.
Experience working in a fundraising environment preferred
Experience as a volunteer in the not-for-profit sector preferred
Exceptional data management skills
Excellent writing skills
Excellent organizational ability; capacity to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent knowledge of direct mail tactics and donor upgrading techniques.
Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
Strong inter-personal communication skills;
Experience with Raiser’s Edge or another fundraising or contact management database.
Self-directed, but able to work as part of an effective team.
