The primary responsibility of the Power Marketing Coordinator II is the implementation of our Day-Ahead Strategy for both the MISO market and the bilateral markets (SOCO & TVA). This includes coordinating with the Cooperative Energy's Fuel team to provide forecasted Next Day natural gas burns, with the Cooperative Energy's Real Time team to provide Day-Ahead positions and expected interchange, and with the Cooperative Energy's Settlements team to keep track of transactions and associated P&L. This position will be responsible for learning and staying abreast of best industry practices for energy risk management, energy reporting, and interchange accounting activities. Contributes to reports for internal use and reporting to outside entities (NERC, SERC, Department of Energy, etc.) as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Submits next day unit offers to both the MISO Market and the bilateral markets. This includes communicating with Generation Plant and System Operations personnel to ensure resources are appropriately reflected in unit offers.
Optimization of self-served load and demand bid submission into the MISO Market.
Optimization of Cooperative Energy's power portfolio on a shorter-term basis through the use of PPAs and bilateral contracts. This includes performing analysis to support all decisions.
Build/maintain relationships with external traders in search of improved marketing opportunities that provide value to Cooperative Energy.
Responsible for the checkout, verification, and tracking of interchange transactions of energy purchases and/or sales with other entities.
Reviews Cooperative Energy's various Power Purchase Agreements and develops strategies to optimize those contracts.
Coordinates with third-party market support staff as applicable.
Develops daily, monthly, and annual reports on marketing activities or other reports as may be required.
Performs data analysis to gather/maintain market intelligence in various markets in which Cooperative Energy operates.
Updates Cooperative Energy's models in Excel, VBA, SQL, and Python.
Engages in continuous learning of the natural gas market in order to collaborate with Cooperative Energy's Fuels team.
Bachelor's Degree Required
Bachelor's Degree Computer Science Preferred
Bachelor's Degree Engineering General (ABET Accredited Institution) Preferred
Bachelor's Degree Finance Preferred
Bachelor's Degree Mathematics Preferred
*Control Center operations or commercial energy transaction experience of 5 or more years may be substituted in lieu of education requirements.
Certification & Licensures:
Successfully pass a security sensitive background screening. Required
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
Strong mathematical skills.
Strong analytical and logical reasoning ability. VBA and SQL are a plus.
Must be methodical and able to accurately handle details. Must be able to clearly communicate these details.
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment during routine and stressful situations.
Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work with others in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
