ABOUT PARK AVENUE ARMORY: Part American palace, part industrial shed, Park Avenue’s mission is to support unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need non-traditional spaces for their full realization, enabling artists to create, students to experience, and audiences to consume epic and adventurous presentations that cannot be mounted elsewhere in New York City. Since 2007, the Armory has produced a number of unforgettable, unconventional, and immersive programs by visionary world-class artists, directors, and impresarios who provide extraordinary experiences in a range of art forms. TheNew York Times has noted that: “few cultural institutions have been as adept at pushing the cultural FOMO button, triggering that ‘fear of missing out’ that New Yorkers hate…”.
Led by Pritzker Prize-winning firm Herzog & de Meuron, the Armory has undertaken a $215 million, multi-year revitalization project that combines detailed and sensitive restoration of some of New York’s most important historic interiors with a dynamic contemporary renovation. Building upon its adventurous and wide-ranging programming, the Armory also offers an arts education program for underserved public school students that is an essential part of its mission, offering free performances and multiple workshops for every production, 14,000+ hours of mentored and rigorous internships, and job training and intense school partnerships.
