The Marketing Assistant will support the marketing functions of the Program for Neurology Research and Discovery (PNRD), providing expertise on branding strategies, digital communications and engagement for the organization. The manager will report to the PNRD Communications Manager and the Managing Director of the ALS Center of Excellence. In collaboration with the Communications Manager, the marketing assistant will support the marketing, communications, development and engagement activities of the program, to identify and maximize opportunities to build support for its scientific research in the academic, business, media, philanthropic and other stakeholder communities.
Facilitate the marketing and engagement strategic objectives of PNRD and apply creative and effective approaches to achieve demonstrable results that help establish and enhance the PNRD brand, raise its public profile and promote its world-class research
Assist in the creation and management of digital media and social media messaging
Produce analytic reports on the volume, reach and engagement of digital and social media communications
Collaborate with the staff and scientists of PNRD, as well as relevant organizations in the larger U-M community
Assist the Communications Manager and the ALS Managing Director in building engagement strategies to create and strengthen relationships among all stakeholder groups
Provide support for the development and event operations of PNRD, in conjunction with counterparts in Michigan Medicine
Assist in the production of promotional and marketing materials for print and digital platforms

HS Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field required
Two or more years of marketing and engagement experience
Understanding of and experience with all facets of marketing
Experience with digital communications, including website and social media messaging, techniques and analytics
Knowledge and understanding of popular social medical platforms including (but not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram and Tumblr
Experience managing and executing fundraising events
Ability to work productively and collegially with diverse groups of people
Demonstrated interest in the opportunities that medical science has to help treat those suffering from disease, to promote the well-being of the community and generally to create a healthier and happier world
Familiarity with software for video and audio editing, graphic design and desktop publishing
Capability to direct and film video content
Experience with relevant aspects of Web-based and digital communications
