Position Summary: Information Technology Services at the University of California (UC) Office of the President is seeking a student intern. This paid, part-time internship is open to currently enrolled UC students interested in marketing/communications for an IT organization.
Participants will: Design and produce content for blogs, social media, and events, including videos, articles, and posters. Propose and implement special projects. Gain experience working as part of a communications team. Have the opportunity to attend an annual IT conference. Network with other interns at social and other events.
The IT Marketing and Communications Intern will help implement the CIO's vision for an integrated communications strategy that promotes community among UC's 8000 IT professionals, encourages collaboration, and draws a connection between the work of IT staff and the UC mission. The intern will use social media and other communications tools, and create content including blog articles, videos, graphics, photographs, posters, and other marketing materials as needed.

Propose, research, and write articles for a weekly blog. Propose and develop other content, such as graphic designs, photos, videos, and promotional pieces, depending on skills and interest.
Develop ideas and content to create engaging and visually interesting presentations and websites. Assist with developing and implementing marketing communications plans.
Employ analytics and visualization to measure and impart the effectiveness of social media and other marketing strategies.
Actively participate in communications team meetings, contributing agenda topics, brainstorming ideas, and providing project updates.
Develop sustainable strategies for using social media tools to increase communications and collaboration within the IT community across the UC system.
Monitor and provide support for social media accounts, including Twitter, Instagram, Slack, LinkedIn, WordPress, and MailChimp.
Contribute new ideas for building community and drawing linkages between the IT staff's work and the University's mission.
Explore and develop ideas for improving communications and collaboration across the IT function, including facilitating dialog with different constituencies, such as students, faculty, and staff about how technology can be used to improve the university experience.
Provide planning, logistics, and support for events such as town halls, webinars, virtual hangouts, etc.
Develop and lead activities to encourage and promote ideas and interaction, such as contests, blog discussions, and use of communications platforms.
Events and Interactive Forums:
Currently enrolled University of California student.
An interest in information technology and desire to learn.
Highly developed interpersonal communications skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to write for a general, non-technical audience. Ability to edit the work of others.
Demonstrated interest in improving writing and editing skills.
knowledge of and familiarity with social media communications tools and strategies, and familiarity with basic marketing and content strategy concepts.
Experience with a variety of social media, presentation, layout/design, and office technologies.
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to be flexible and adaptable as priorities evolve.
Ability to work well with ambiguity and experimentation, and to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
