The Director of Marketing is responsible for planning and managing all aspects of the UA Presents’ marketing and external relations as well as evaluating their effectiveness. The Director is charged with bringing the values of UA Presents, Arizona Arts, and the University of Arizona to wider populations and expanding relationships. Responsible for reaching earned income goals, the Director of Marketing promotes and strategically reinforces the unifying of UA Presents’ image, its mission and programs in pursuit and retention of new and diverse audiences, press, members, and donors. Experience with dynamic pricing and multiple media outlets are crucial to meeting these goals. They are the UA Presents’ liaison to the greater community, actively seeking out connections that enhance experiences with the organization. The Director of Marketing will report to the Executive Director of UA Presents and will be supported by and work closely with all staff including production, box office, audience services, and development, and will represent UA Presents to external constituents in the region.
Marketing & Audience Development
Develop and execute a marketing and media plan that establishes broad- based and grassroots audience development strategies, strengthens relationships with existing UA Presents attendees, and explores and targets new markets.
Write or oversee copy for printed pieces, web pages, advertisements, and highly personalized letter e-mail blasts; coordinate with Executive Director and other team member participation for approvals as well as partner organizations, to meet deadlines.
Develop and manage a detailed plan for utilizing the marketing and communications budget with the goal of maximizing impact.
Conduct benchmarking and analyze effectiveness used to inform decisions regarding strategic marketing direction, product segmentation, and customer targeting.
Assess market opportunities and track market trends.
Ensure a comprehensive UA Presents ‘look’ or brand encompassing as many areas of operations and communications as possible, including use of logo, colors, fonts, styles, and designs.
Maintain, manage, and update the organization’s website with Marketing Manager
Coordinate ad placement and media buys with various advertisers as well as develop and maintain professional relationships with media outlet representatives.
Manage and supervise the activities of marketing staff, including the Marketing Manager, and other marketing staff as may be needed and hired.
Coordinate the delivery of services and relationships with outside professional vendors to ensure high-quality fulfillment of service needs.
Recruit and train interns to support audience development and PR efforts.
Stay actively informed and engaged with new avenues for marketing and developing audiences.
UA Presents Programming
Engage with UA Presents programming, artists, and events.
Develop best strategies for marketing and presenting each program to the public.
Work with the Programming staff to learn more about each program and why it is being presented, and to develop content for social media and other platforms
Work with staff to create audience development programs.
Establish relationships with contracted UA Presents artists and speakers and/or their press offices and managers to gather marketing materials, obtain approvals for marketing materials, and coordinate marketing and media opportunities.
Press & Media Relations
Oversee press and media relations.
Develop relationships with local media.
Pitch and coordinate media requests; write and release press releases.
Work with Arizona Arts and the University of Arizona marketing teams to reach a broad range of national media for institutional, destination, and programmatic press.
In collaboration with the Executive Director, Managing Director, and Box Office Manager, oversee the execution of UA Presents ticketing services, including Ticketmaster ticketing software.
Manage and supervise the activities of the box office staff.
Set ticket prices for all shows prior to the start of the season. Reevaluate and implement dynamic pricing throughout the year.
Work closely with staff on promotions and packaging.
Develop new strategies for managing the ticket buyer list and marketing leads, making best use of Ticketmaster, or develop new best practices for list management.
Analyze and report past and present sales figures, statistics, and patterns, and oversee ticket inventory.
Support the Development staff in creating and producing materials for sponsorship proposals and other development initiatives as necessary.
Minimum 5 years experience in Marketing and related work.
Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
Experience managing and working within budget to deliver results.
Strong organizational, management, and personal skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience in producing publications and copy editing.
Proficiency with MS Office and Google Apps.
Familiar with and comfortable using Adobe Creative Suite; basic HTML; social media and email marketing platforms.
Ability to exercise professional discretion and confidentiality.
Ability to have flexible hours to support UA Presents schedule.
Ability to work on multiple projects to tight deadlines and often under pressure.
Ability to problem-solve project briefs and consider various routes to ensure delivery.

Graphic design experience a plus.

Versed in and extremely comfortable with digital and experiential marketing.
Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in oral and written communication on a personal and group level.
Possess strong commitment to team environment dynamics with the ability to contribute expertise and follow leadership directives at appropriate times.
Self-starter who applies individual initiative to get the job done.
Fluency in Spanish.
Experience developing and implementing strategic, community-based programs.
Experience, ability, and commitment to working with diverse groups in terms of gender expression, race, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class, and immigrant status.
