The Vice President for Strategy and Marketing provides leadership, development and implementation of Penn State Health's strategic planning and business development initiatives as well as oversees marketing strategy, in terms of brand positioning, digital presence and user experience. The role provides strategic direction to drive results and ensure alignment with overall the Penn State Health strategy, and major institutional objectives as well as defined marketing objectives. The Vice President, through the effective engagement of the department's teams and tools, will gather and analyze internal and market data to evaluate and select appropriate strategies and tactics for patient acquisition, growth of the clinical enterprise, retention and loyalty, support organizational objectives and optimize program effectiveness (ROI). Assigns projects, monitors workflow of direct reports and their teams. Realigns priorities and resources as necessary.
Important to this position's success is the ability to interpret data and use it to integrate strategic marketing initiatives across functions, divisions and departments to ensure the strength of the marketing programs across Penn State Health's diverse organizational structure and established service lines. The leader should have a patient-focused/customer-first orientation that allows her/him to bring realistic external perspectives to the workplace. A combination of business management and marketing skills with a thorough knowledge of traditional and digital strategies and tactics, and their impact on the healthcare environment is preferred. The leader leads a team responsible for the day-to-day support and development of strategic marketing and planning approaches for the organization. She/he should be comfortable promoting new ideas and emerging technology.
Master's Degree required
10 years of experience in a leadership role overseeing marketing, communications, and/or community relations within a complex health system environment required.
7 years of management experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Excellent written and oral communication skills are an essential asset.
Must be able to foster relationships among various internal departments and across multiple hospital and clinical practice leadership teams.
Must be able to clearly communicate the organization's goals, marketing and business development priorities.
Must possess the ability to understand business needs, market trends, and analyze competitors and data.
Practical knowledge of planning and business development techniques, market research and analysis, and management and supervisory techniques.
Strong analytical abilities in order to identify an organization's strengths and weaknesses and determine areas for improvement and growth is required.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure. Strong project management skills in order to oversee the execution of initiatives is required.
MBA or MHA preferred.
