The Director, Marketing & Communications is responsible for The Broad Stage’s marketing strategy and activities and will provide strong leadership, creative, out-of-the-box operational and strategic direction to the Marketing and Patron Services teams. This individual will develop and manage thoughtfully executed marketing, communications, and sales campaigns intended to generate awareness, interest, and engagement in The Broad Stage and its programs. Reporting to the Artistic & Executive Director, the Director of M&C supervises a team comprised of the Marketing and Communications Department as well as the Patron Services Manager and staff. The Director of M&C will foster strong, collaborative relationships with other departments within The Broad Stage, our Board of Directors, our partners at Santa Monica College, our artistic partners, and members of our local community.
Lead and manage The Broad Stage rebranding and website redesign initiatives
Retain and build audiences and increase earned revenue streams for new and existing opportunities
Supervise and build a talented marketing team in driving forward the mission and values of The Broad Stage through a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy
Work symbiotically with the Senior Development Officer to achieve organizational outcomes including contributed and earned revenue goals
Function as a key member of the leadership team
Plan, implement and oversee the execution of The Broad Stage’s marketing strategy, including paid media, PR, digital marketing, and virtual programming with the objective to maximize sales, attendance, and awareness for TBS.
Lead and nurture a talented team of marketing, communications, and patron services professionals in carrying out the marketing plans for The Broad Stage season, Development activities, community outreach, school, and education initiatives.
Cultivate The Broad Stage brand and artistic vision, and maintain a commitment to the organization’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives across all marketing efforts
Oversee the curation of compelling patron journeys, from first-time ticket buyers to high-level donors.
In association with the Director of Development, create cohesive messaging for external and internal communications.
Oversee development and execution of strategic plans that maximize ROI for all marketing activities to meet and exceed budgeted revenue goals across subscription and single ticket campaigns.
Create and implement innovative strategies, promotions, and ongoing marketing programs to ensure optimum sales results, build awareness, and grow audience.
Create relationships that allow TBS to expand its reach to core demographics and create strategies for appealing to new, diverse demographics.
Develop strategies and tools to help other areas of TBS as they approach potential partners, patrons, and community groups
Oversee management and growth of TBS website, social media, and email; develop engaging and relevant content, track and report KPIs across channels; stay up to date with social media trends and best practices.
Generate annual expense/revenue budgets, determine income goals for all shows, quarterly financial forecast updates, and monitoring of expenses. Create sales projections for all shows including pricing and scaling, working closely with Artistic Planning, Finance, and Operations.
Actively monitor all sales, and make recommendations for pricing, discounting, and response tactics; determine when to activate dynamic pricing.
Oversee the development of integrated season launch plans and marketing materials including all aspects from design to production (video, print, digital, brochures, e-mail, social media).
Manage CRM objectives via Patron Manager system
Manage sales reporting and communication regarding sales throughout the organization.
Attend Board meetings; participate in Board committee meetings as needed; create Board meeting reports on progress of marketing & communications initiatives
Strategic consultation with other departments to provide data

8+ year’s management experience with demonstrated effectiveness in marketing and sales strategy.
Strong budget management and forecasting skills.
Direct experience in marketing, traditional and digital advertising, and direct mail.
Events marketing experience in a live event, ticketing-based environment a plus.
Enthusiasm for the performing arts is essential.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentational communication skills are required.
Proven ability to lead, motivate and professionally develop a staff.
Ability to work as part of a team, resolving problems, balancing the needs of diverse groups, and carrying projects through at a high level of excellence.
