Overview This position is responsible for the strategy and implementation for the marketing of all SFPE products and events, including membership marketing, and the direction of SFPE’s communications to internal and external audiences. The position provides strategic input on the SFPE brand, events, education offerings, publications, and web design and content. The position supervises the Marketing Manager and manages relationships with eight or more outsourced consultants. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to evaluate these relationships and reorganize as needed.
Marketing—creates and implements strategy for SFPE’s marketing priorities. Creates, develops, and coordinates marketing plans, campaigns, and analytics for all areas of the organization, including membership, education, and conferences marketing strategy and implementation. Develops, manages, and coordinates all promotional activities in digital and print. Identifies existing and new markets, pricing models, tracks marketing efforts, and enhances the SFPE brand. Working with the Marketing Manager, creates and deploys digital marketing via email and other channels. Ensures compliance with data privacy requirements in the U.S. and abroad. Coordinates sponsoring and exhibiting opportunities with external audiences.
Sales—working closely with an outside vendor, ensures maintenance and growth of sales revenue for publications, events, education, exhibits, sponsorships, and digital advertising.
Communications--Creates and directs strategy for communications priorities of SFPE. Creates, develops, and coordinates communication plans, campaigns, and analytics. Develops new communication strategies and tactics. Ensures compliance with data privacy requirements in the U.S. and abroad.
Social media—directs development and implementation of SFPE’s social media strategy. Working closely with the Marketing Manager, utilizes social media tools for marketing, communication, engagement, and community-building.
Public relations—working closely with outsourced public relations and communications firm, coordinates external communications, and integrates messaging across all forms of media.
Magazine—working closely with the magazine editor (outside vendor), ensures that SFPE produces a magazine that is informative and engaging for members and other audiences; utilizes both print and digital formats.
Journal—working closely with the journal editor (outside vendor), ensures that SFPE produces a peer-reviewed quarterly journal that covers a range of fire safety science and engineering topics in industrial, operational, cultural, and environmental settings.
Newsletters—working closely with the newsletter editor (outside vendor), ensures publication of monthly and quarterly digital newsletters that keeps members and other audiences informed about opportunities at SFPE.
Web—creates plans for functionality, design, and content of the SFPE website; oversees updates of web content; implements and maintains web taxonomy and search engine optimization (SEO).
Graphic Design—working closely with the outsourced graphic design artist, ensures that SFPE’s messages are supported by high-quality and relevant graphics.
Online Communities—working closely with the outsourced consultant, ensures engagement of members in online communities.
Careers – work closely with an outside vendor to enhance and expand the career center as well as develop and publish a career guide and compensation report.
Publications – work closely with an outside vendor to contract and publish our Handbook, engineering standards and guidelines, and other technical publications.
Responsible for developing and monitoring approved budgets.
Write and edit copy for speeches, presentations, articles, etc.
Undergraduate degree in business administration, management, marketing, communications, or another relevant field of study and at least five years of related experience, or another equivalent combination of education and experience; association experience and/or international experience a plus
Knowledge of and proficiency with traditional and new marketing and communication strategies and tactics that reflect current best practices
