As part of the SCL group, the Campus Life Marketing & Communications team oversees all aspects of SCL's strategic communication and marketing plans with goals of raising visibility of SCL activities and programs as well as create demand of SCL's products and services to Cornell's internal and external communities through coordinated messages and approaches.
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for a wide range of marketing strategy development for SCL's service areas (Conference & Event Services, Housing & Residential Life, Cornell Dining, Cornell Catering, and Cornell Retail Services) which includes market research, creative development, implementation of marketing solutions, as well as delivery of promotional communications. While meeting regularly with area clients to stay abreast of changes, program and events, this role will also collect and analyze consumer data in order to create, implement, and maintain marketing plans and schedules from implementation to follow up for each campaign or promotion, while adhering to deadlines, quality standards, and budget allowances that help drive business outcomes. Additionally, the Marketing & Communication Manager will collaborate with the broader marketing team and other key stakeholders to create efficiencies where possible and ensure smooth operational flow as well as support necessary internal communication that ensure overall success of the team.
A successful Marketing & Communications Manager will:
Understand effective communication concepts, tools and techniques in order to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Be creative, innovative, and enjoy working independently as well as a contributing part of a team.
Demonstrate an ability to take initiative, work efficiently and prioritize appropriately when managing competing deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with frequent changes in priorities
Collaborate effectively with key stakeholders and clients to develop, strengthen, maintain, and leverage strong, lasting relationships with a wide variety of groups including students, staff, faculty, campus partners, service providers and the larger community.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and minimum three years' experience in marketing strategy development or related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience; five years related experience preferred.
Experience, or familiarity, with business analysis, market research, analytics, graphic design and a general understanding of publishing methods and requirements.
Strong computer skills with knowledge of: Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, web content management tools, social media, and mobile applications.
Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communications skills with excellent proofreading and editing skills.
