Tower Hill School seeks a collaborative, thoughtful and reliable full-time Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing to drive storytelling, project management and creative content for the school. This position focuses on writing and editing projects for multiple communication channels, while also contributing to digital and design projects as part of a cohesive team.
Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing is a key member of a three-person communications team and will be responsible for a broad range of materials including the biannual school magazine, weekly digital newsletter, alumni outreach, website, fundraising campaigns, social media and email communications.
The Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing will work in tandem with the Director of Communications and Marketing to manage the school’s communications strategy, branding and messaging. The candidate will build and maintain strong relationships across the school community by partnering with faculty, alumni, students and parents to craft and refine the school’s story and voice by discovering and amplifying news, successes, diversity, service and humanity. They will also work collaboratively to support departments critical to the success of the school including Admission, Advancement, Alumni Relations, Athletics, Parents Association and Social Justice.
Ideal candidates should possess the following credentials and qualities:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field
- A minimum of three years experience in the communications or public relations field
- Familiarity with the education field, independent schools, and/or nonprofit work is preferred
- An outstanding writer, editor and proofreader who can produce accurate copy for a variety of channels, often on a tight timeline
- Superb attention to grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation; familiarity with AP Style is preferred
- Experience writing for and managing social media, including analytics
- Experience working with a website Content Management System (CMS), preferably with Blackbaud
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets and Slides)
- Project management experience and the ability to simultaneously move multiple projects forward is desired
- Familiarity with public relations and media outreach, being able to craft powerful pitches
- Extremely detail-oriented and organized
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated examples of work where versatility, resourcefulness, innovation and problem-solving skills influenced the outcome
