Job Summary:
The Associate Director of Marketing and Communications supports the development of strategy, manages execution and conducts evaluation on effectiveness for brand marketing communications at Medill. The position works collaboratively with the Director of Marketing, Communications and Special Events and with internal stakeholders to ensure marketing activities align to the department’s strategy, advance the goals of the school and positively build the Medill and Northwestern brands.
Position requires occasional evening and weekend work. Occasional travel, both domestic and international, may be required. This position will be on-site on the Evanston campus for a minimum of two days per week, while the remaining time is allowed to worked remotely. This remote working arrangement will be evaluated on a regular basis and may be changed based on business and operational needs.
Please note: The target budgeted salary for this position is $75,000 - $83,000 annually. Offers will be based on candidate experience and education, as well as equity within Northwestern University.Â
Specific Responsibilities:
- Develops and formulates marketing and communications strategies for Medill in cooperation with the Marketing and Communications Director and in alignment with the Dean’s priorities. Implements the strategy and executes projects to build the Medill brand and reputation and support the recruitment of undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty. Ensures that all messaging, digital communications, print materials and promotional materials are produced to a high standard and reflect the stature of Medill and Northwestern. Develops content that aligns with the department strategy to promote various priorities of the school and raise awareness of its programs and initiatives. Evaluates effectiveness of strategies and tactics and makes changes and recommendations to improve outcomes.
- Manages Medill’s digital presence, including digital advertising campaigns and the school’s primary website. Updates content on the website and works collaboratively with web development team to add new features. As the department conducts digital advertising campaigns, provides counsel and oversight for strategy, implementation and effectiveness, serving as the day-to-day contact with digital advertising agency. Collaborates with Medill vendors to provide appropriate access to Google Analytics accounts.
- Supports Medill’s digital assets, including branding files and photos. Serves as the main point of contact for requests for digital assets. Coordinates the collection of photos as needed for marketing and communications projects.
- Supports information gathering from Medill’s CRM to support data driven marketing decisions and prepares reports based on this data
- Collaborates with colleagues across the school to help advance Medill’s strategic goals and improve the educational experience of its students.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related field.
- 4-5 years related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to create compelling and effective marketing communications content that engages target audiences.
- Demonstrated experience managing marketing communications projects in a timely, efficient and effective manner.
- Demonstrated experience managing websites, including development of new sites; digital advertising campaigns; and using CRM systems.
- Demonstrated success formulating and implementing digital strategy and developing digital content to achieve measurable marketing goals.

- Proficient in HTML, Photoshop, InDesign, social media platforms and content management systems.
- Proficient in AP Style.
