Position Summary
The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for leading the Marketing & Communications team to create outstanding marketing, advertising, public relations, and communications content. This content includes writing, editing, branding, design, photography, videography, social media, advertising, email communication, and the public website. Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Marketing, Enrollment, & Communications, the Director is responsible for marketing and communications strategy, implementing department initiatives, and managing departmental processes. The Director will market the university as a whole, as well as all the various programs within the university. This disciplined, highly skilled, analytical, and creative self-starter will oversee content creation and effectiveness across all media platforms.
Position Responsibilities
- Collaborate with leadership team, deans, enrollment directors, and others to determine priorities, identify audiences, strategize, and develop content for print, multimedia, and digital communications – including digital ads, video ads, outdoor ads, radio ads, brochures, website, direct mail, etc.
- Coordinate media interest in the University and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests.
- Develop and present consistent, timely reports on defined performance indicators.
- Ensure the cohesive incorporation of EU’s brand into all areas of the team’s work.
- Execute various external and internal communication and public relations strategies; collaborate with the President’s Office and other University Leadership team members on crisis communications.
- Lead the Marketing & Communications team to create engaging, high-quality advertisements that generate enrollment leads for all programs of the University. Ensure college marketing best practices within the industry.
- Make decisions regarding questions of style and content and exercise a high level of sound technical and professional judgment regarding matters of style and effective communication.
- Manage a wide variety of projects simultaneously, often with tight deadlines. Possess the ability to organize projects with multiple departments and department heads.
- Manage assigned team members by ensuring job roles, training and development, communication, team building, and modeling Christian leadership.
- Oversee content strategy and collaborate with others on copy for web, print, ads, landing pages, social media, and other platforms. Evaluate and enhance content, develop structure and format/reformat content to best convey messaging.
- Oversee media buys and contracts. Communicate with vendors/consultants, manage processes between EU and vendors for deliverables.
- Participate as a brand content spokesperson in communicating Eastern University’s brand, articulating what it stands for and leveraging a variety of communication vehicles.
- Understands and follows FERPA regulations.
- Work with the AVP to manage the department budget.
- Write articles and news releases as needed; develop content for Marketing & Communications pieces
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to give constructive feedback, edit, manage deadlines, and maintain brand cohesion.
- Bachelor’s degree or industry experience; Master’s degree is a plus. A degree in Marketing, Communications, PR, Advertising, Journalism, or related field is desirable
