The chief marketing officer (CMO) will disseminate and promote the Lindenwood University brand through traditional and digital media, articulating a differentiated value propositioning to all internal and external stakeholders. This role will focus on developing the institution into the region’s most sought-out, learner-centric University.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities and Execution
- Develops understanding of marketing and communications needs and goals of each academic college; collaborates with Marketing department to create and implement a cohesive, integrated University-wide marketing and communications strategy
- Strengthens the Lindenwood University brand through an array of channels, geographics, and target student markets – including Lindenwood Global, the institution’s adult student-focused recruitment brand
- Creates a marketing culture focused on data-driven, definitive strategies that generate student inquiries and increase overall University student population
- Assures entire department provides excellent customer service throughout all initiatives
- Identifies traditional, social media, and online advertising opportunities; oversees production and graphic design of ads; optimizes campaigns to increase University enrollment
- Oversees photography and videography
- Assists in developing Lindenwood’s Google search campaign, social media ads, and all digital marketing efforts, as well as assuring quality control of publications
- Coordinates development and maintenance of Lindenwood’s website, overseeing frequent content updates as well as researching and implementing new page layouts
- Recognizes industry and competitive trends and identifies/targets specific, new, or underserved markets
- Collaborates with Advancement and Communications on public relations (PR), special events, promotions, and media outreach
- Administers consistent brand stewardship and messaging development
- Supports executive leadership with research, writing, editing, and dissemination of communiqués and marketing initiatives, including presentations, talking points, speeches, event briefings, and other communications
- Develops and monitors annual marketing budget and internal communication plans
Leadership and Strategic Thinking
- Seeks out opportunities to exchange and integrate innovative and research-based ideas into existing service delivery
- Establishes long- and short-term strategic goals based on assessment data and ensures standards for the department and its field are met or exceeded
- Measures and reports on performance, assessing against pre-established marketing goals
Employee Management and Development
- Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
- Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork
- Recruits, interviews, recommends, welcomes, observes, and monitors performance of new employees
- Sets clear performance expectations and holds employees accountable
- Provides autonomy and resources to enable staff to meet job expectations
- Conducts annual employee evaluations based on evidence, observation, and feedback

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in marketing strategy and execution
- Master’s degree preferred
