About the Position: University Advancement builds and strengthens relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University, its mission, goals and programs to achieve student and alumni success. Strategic Communications plays an integral role in helping to shape and strengthen the institutions brand and advance in a wide range of institutional effectiveness. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Director, Marketing. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Strategic Communication, the Associate Director of Marketing (ADM) position develops and supports consistent brand messaging across key stakeholder audiences. Position leads brand and advertising strategy for the university working with design teams and vendors for cost effective brand building. Project leadership and oversight will span multiple platforms and channels with emphasis on fundraising, enrollment, advocacy, alumni, retention, event participation, brand building, community membership, elected officials and other stakeholders. The Associate Director works closely with colleges to support news media in earning local, regional and national press for key experts in trending topics. The position will build content for college prospective student pages emphasizing key market differentiators and support targeted marketing communication from acceptance to enrollment focusing on yield.
The Associate Director will lead research for brand positioning and identify opportunities to attract and retain students. Research regarding employer perceptions will be launched. This position will work closely with the design team to refresh key branding elements of logo, colors, fonts and user experience. Will use data analytics to measure and modify content development and promotion. Develops and manages advertising budget and oversight crossing audience groups and will lead stakeholder research and integrating best practices in higher education marketing. Will write advertising body copy and landing page copy and oversee layout of ads and landing pages. Collaborates with department colleagues in effective presentation of excellence proof points through content development, publications, digital ads, and other creative executions. Serves as a key member of the leadership team defining strategy and staffing needs. The position will be liaison to the CSU Chancellor's Office for marketing messaging. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university. Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in planning, managing or developing marketing communications. Experience in researching, developing, and/or implementing a brand strategy. Experience supervising employees. Ability to develop creative and effective project plans to meet a wide range of institutional interests, including fundraising, advocacy, enrollment development, event attendance, and other forms of stakeholder engagement. Superior written and verbal skills in English. Ability to successfully collaborate with colleagues both within and outside the department. Ability to understand, communicate, and enforce established editorial and graphic standards. Ability to multi-task in a fast -paced, deadline-driven environment with a proactive approach to work, duties and tasks. Ability to exercise sound judgment, problem- solve and develop sound solutions through innovative techniques and best practices.
Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions. Ability to work proficiently with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and web publishing programs.

Preferred Qualifications:Masters degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in marketing., proven non-profit and fundraising messaging.
