Carnegie Mellon is enjoying its most productive fundraising years in its history, raising more than $950M over the last three years. University Advancement (UA) supports the entire CMU community in building relationships with key constituencies and securing the financial resources the university needs to continue its ascent. As the division grows, we are seeking an associate director, Advancement Communications and Marketing. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. Reporting to the senior associate director, Advancement Communications and Marketing, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategies across numerous channels to achieve university and division goals for: 1) current and future fundraising campaigns; 2) increased and more meaningful audience engagement; and 3) alumni engagement through communication strategies. In addition, you will contribute effective content that is written to both audience and purpose and adhere to best practices for marketing communications. You should have exceptional writing and editing skills, as well as demonstrated experience in managing cross-channel marketing plans, including but not limited to direct mail, email, online, social media and video.
You should be innovative, organized and deadline-focused, and have experience in managing multiple projects at once. You should have extensive experience writing marketing copy in a variety of mediums as well as strong planning and organizing skills. You will work closely with other teams within the division, including Alumni and Constituent Engagement, Annual Giving, Development, Donor Relations, University Events, Gift Planning and Business Engagement.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Developing and executing integrated marketing communications strategies that further University Advancement goals across a variety of departments and functions, including Alumni Relations, Annual Giving, Development, Gift Planning and Institutional Partnerships;
- Liaising with internal partners to translate their goals and objectives into marketing communications plans;
- Working closely with other members of the Advancement Communications and Marketing team to develop marketing communications to achieve goals and objectives for engagement, participation and philanthropic support;
- Organizing, writing and producing multimedia content for web and social media;
- Writing, editing, copyediting and proofreading collateral including newsletters, direct mail, emails and stories;
- Building news and feature stories in the university web content management system;
- Making appropriate editorial decisions based on established style guides;
- Performing related duties as assigned.

You should be able to work outside of normal business hours as needed.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications or public relations is required; master's degree preferred.
- Seven or more years of experience in digital and print content strategy and development;
- Five or more years of experience in project management;
- Experience in higher education and/or large institution fundraising or marketing communications is preferred but not required;
- Expertise in marketing and communications principles, strategies and tactics;
- Extensive experience with digital marketing, including email, websites and social media;
- Proficiency with content management systems and social media platforms;
- Knowledge of marketing analytics and metrics;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign and Photoshop);
- Experience with web content management systems.
