Publishing Marketing Manager: The Marketing Manager, Publishing reports directly to the Director of Marketing, Publishing and is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing marketing efforts for products and services produced by the Society’s publishing division. The primary focus of the position will be supporting the marketing of Optica Publishing Group’s peer-reviewed subscription and/or Open-Access journals, although this position will also develop and implement marketing efforts associated with other publishing products and services.
Devising and executing strategies that drive revenue and usage of Optica Publishing Group’s products and that best meet the needs of its major constituencies – libraries, authors, reviewers, and readers. Analyzing the competitor landscape as it relates to author, editor, and reviewer services offered by others in STM publishing to ensure that Optica Publishing Group is aware of and acting on events, trends, etc., that affect its publishing division and its work.
Working closely with other members of the publishing division and the centralized marketing team to implement marketing initiatives associated with the Society’s strategic priorities as well as the publishing division’s yearly road map initiatives.
Developing comprehensive marketing plans annually for assigned journals to drive content usage in subscription journals so as to retain existing or acquire new institutional subscriptions and/or to solicit authors to submit to or download content published in Open-Access journals. Regularly tracking the success of all marketing activities, including the implementation of A/B testing, and adjusting strategies and tactics based on results. Part of campaign tracking involves assisting with the maintenance of a monthly dashboard.
Executing print, email, online, exhibit, social media and multimedia promotional campaigns outlined in the marketing plans to effectively promote select journals and other products and services as assigned. Implementation of the marketing plans includes the development and distribution of email broadcasts; coordinating targeted list development for print or email promotions; managing the creation and coordination of marketing materials needed for table tops or larger booth exhibitions at industry trade shows for scientists and/or librarians; and producing and scheduling web and print Optica Publishing Group advertisements along with brief product updates for Optica’s websites, print publications, and member newsletters. Preparing reports and presenting the results of all marketing activities to editors for assigned journals on a regular basis is also a key component of this role.
Following Optica Publishing Group’s brand guidelines, overseeing design of a variety of print and electronic collateral to promote assigned Optica Publishing Group products and services. Materials include brochures; banners and other electronic graphics for social media, web, and emails; flyers and other collateral; advertisements; signage; PowerPoint presentations, etc. Supervising work of internal designers and outside vendors (graphic designers, commercial printers, service bureaus, etc.) as needed.
Corporate Events & Marketing Manager ( Europe based)
The European-Based Corporate Events and Marketing Manager is an individual with five for more years of comprehensive experience in the areas of special-event planning/execution and marketing in Europe. The position reports directly to the Deputy Senior Director of Operations and regularly interacts with the Chief Technology Officer. Must have the ability to undertake a flexible work schedule to enable interaction with international contacts in different time zones. Proven ability to effectively communicate in a global multi-cultural environment, both within a (remote) team and independently
Events: This position has a range of responsibilities in the areas of Optica’s industry program planning and implementation, vendor sourcing and oversight, speaker and registration administration, on-line production support, budget oversight, promotional planning and execution, as well as post-event evaluation and results reporting. The individual must be self-motivated, self-starting, an effective communicator, hands-on team player, detail- and results-driven, and responsive to stakeholders. The abilities to manage workload and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced non-profit environment are essential to this role.
Marketing & Communications: Develops comprehensive program plans and works in concert with the Optica Centralized Marketing and the Corporate Communications teams to create accompanying marketing plans that successfully promote each event in the portfolio. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills in-person, online, and by phone. Excellent written and spoken English language skills. French and German fluency would be an advantage but is not a requirement. Estimated Travel: 20% per year travel to Optica and peer events. Note: Travel includes advance site visits on behalf of Optica.
Technical & Market Expert Director– Industry Engagement
Optica is recruiting for a Technical & Market Expert Director. The Technical & Market Expert Director is an individual with advanced technical expertise and solid commercial experience. The position reports directly to the Deputy Senior Director of Operations and regularly interacts with the Chief Technology Officer. This position has a range of responsibilities in the areas of membership relations, program development, event management, communications, and administrative tasks related to membership/corporate programming. The individual must be self-motivated, an effective communicator, capable of executing strategic plans, results-oriented, and responsive to stakeholders. The abilities to manage workload and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced non-profit environment are essential to this role. Estimated Travel: ~45 days per year, including member and prospect visits, and travel to Optica and peer events.
The education and experience requirements for this high visibility role are as follows:
PHD in photonics, quantum technology, or equivalent.
Five to seven years of experience
In-depth knowledge of photonics technologies and markets is required.
Solid experience working in the photonics commercial sphere or equivalent is required.
Proven experience developing and presenting strategic and performance plans.
Strong track record of high integrity, good judgment, confidentiality, and discretion.
Senior Manager, Industry Marketing (hybrid)
The Optica marketing team is responsible for a comprehensive promotion program that supports events, awards and recognitions, corporate membership, exhibits sales and publishing. The Senior Manager, Industry Marketing, supports a defined portion of this portfolio focusing primarily on industry engagement including membership, events and reports. While not a technical marketing role, the position benefits from an individual with expertise in science and/or technology paired with commercial experience. This position provides tactical promotion support to ensure organizational key results are met in industry engagement, event attendance and revenue; and analytical/operational support on metrics, budgeting and prospect management. The position relies heavily on sustaining strong relationships between the marketing team, other Optica teams and relevant volunteers.
