The Events & Marketing Specialist serves as a staff member in the Fowler College of Business. The work objectives are set by the Director of Marketing & Communications. This position is responsible for planning and organizing the methods and details for accomplishment; determines priorities; selects methodology from various approaches; recommends actions that may impact the work of others. The Events and Marketing Specialist is responsible for development, which requires a thorough understanding of proper procedures and etiquette.
The Events and Marketing Specialist is responsible for coordinating and executing special events for the Fowler College of Business. These events are done for the primary purpose of providing important forums for quality interaction with leading campus donors, alumni, elected officials, volunteers, business leaders, faculty, students, and staff. This position is also responsible for marketing support efforts including email marketing, CRM administration and data collection and analysis. They will help with other ad hoc special events for the Dean and with Commencement. The Events and Marketing Specialist also provides events, CRM and marketing support to the College's Lamden School and the four academic departments. This position provides administrative support for volunteer groups; assists in the creation, production and mailing of appropriate invitations and letters; and coordinates other programs and activities as assigned.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
The Fowler College of Business (FCB) consists of one school and four academic departments (Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy, Finance, Management Information Systems, Management, and Marketing), a Dean, an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, an Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, a Director for Resource Management, a Director of Marketing & Communications, a Director for Graduate Programs, a Director for Undergraduate Programs, a Director for Assessment, a Director for the Career Management Center, and a Managing Director for the Wendy Gillespie Center for Advancing Global Business.
The Fowler College of Business offers a variety of programs, including an undergraduate and graduate degree in business administration and specialized masters degree programs. The college also houses several centers: the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center, the Corky McMillin Center for Real Estate, the Wendy Gillespie Center for Advancing Global Business, the Corporate Governance Institute, the Institute for Inclusion and Diversity, the Center for Integrated Marketing Communication, the Center for Artificial Intelligence and the Aztec Consulting Center, which are critical for the implementation of its strategic plan.
The Fowler College of Business has over 200 full and part-time academic employees and more than 45 clerical and technical employees.
FCB is an instructional division of San Diego State University, administered by the Dean. The Dean's Office is responsible for the creation, implementation, and continued support of the instructional, research, and development processes in the College.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
Three to five years of experience in the event planning field, preferably in a higher education institution or large, complex organization is preferred.
Demonstrated experience coordinating all aspects of event catering such as menu selection, working with internal and external caterers, consideration of dietary restrictions and holiday sensitivity, equipment rental, setup logistics, event organization and contract familiarity.
Experience in working with an external organization to meet organizational goals.
Working knowledge of Advance and/or ability to quickly learn database software programs (Salesforce or Advance experience preferred).
Understanding collaboration with CEO, President and top leadership teams in a university of major non-profit.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction and when planning and executing an event from start to finish.
Experience interacting with VIPs in a professional manner.
Working knowledge of Oracle financial processes and procedures.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,000 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,170 - $7.545 per month.
