AUTM is the nonprofit leader in efforts to educate, promote and inspire professionals to support the development of academic research that changes the world and drives innovation forward through technology transfer.
In this role, you will be employed by AUTM, largely in support of its multi-year grant to operate the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC). The FLC is a nationwide network of more than 300 federal laboratories, agencies, and research centers that fosters commercialization best practice strategies and opportunities for accelerating federal technologies from out of the labs and into the marketplace.
What will you do:
The ideal candidate will maintain and grow the strong editorial presence for the FLC. This is a writing and editing-role with responsibilities that include working with volunteer committees and organizational leadership. We are a creative, collaborative, hard-working team and seek a candidate with a strong work ethic, healthy obsession with deadlines, writer's mind who knows how to craft engaging prose without heavy edits, and a desire to be part of an uber-friendly group of like-minded marketers.
In this role you will:
Create the annual FLC Planner (published calendar)
Manage judging process for submissions
Write photo captions
Work with designer on Planner layout and design
Work with to grow Planner's mailing list
Write Executive Communications
Draft talking points, speeches, editorials and other messaging for Board leadership
Create the FLC's Annual Awards Publication
Write 30+ Awards profiles on deadline
Coordinate timely lab review of completed profiles and incorporate feedback
Proof Awards Publication
Craft National Meeting and Awards Ceremony scripts including A/V cues
Craft Awards Ceremony slides and ensure consistency with Awards profiles
Draft the FLC Report to Congress
Work with Marketing Director to collect relevant information from FLC stakeholders
Write annual letter from the Chair and other descriptive text, as needed
Provide Generalize Marketing and Communications Support
Reviewing/proofing all emails and other marketing collateral
This job is remote but applicants in the Washington, DC Metro area are preferred to facilitate more frequent full-staff meetings.

The technical qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or journalism is preferred with a minimum 4-5 years’ practical experience in published writing, editing, executive communications and scripts.
Technology transfer experience is preferred but not required.
Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.
Excellent written skills including a command of English grammar, usage, and vocabulary.
Prior experience working with an Association is preferred
