Detailed Job Description The Simone Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship's Marketing and Project Manager Position supports and aids in the creation and administration of the Center's portfolio of innovation and entrepreneurship offerings. These activities include entrepreneurial contests, early stage student and faculty incubator programs, corporate/societal problem solving programs, making activities, entrepreneurial mentoring etc.
The position's primary functional responsibilities reside in marketing-communications, stakeholder outreach, project management, and general event administration. A particular emphasis is placed on marketing (outreach) directed toward the RIT's student population and project management activities.
This generalist position requires strong writing, presentation, and organization skills, and a familiarity with current digital web related technology. The position works very closely with the Simone Center's director and associate director-and will both administer specific programs/activities and assist with others. Specific functional responsibilities may adapted to the successful candidates unique skill sets, strengths and experiences.
Specific Activities include:
Student outreach programs designed to inform and attract students from the RIT's diverse 11 academic units about entrepreneurship and innovation opportunities. This includes various activities including student focus open houses, course presentations, etc.
Digital Marketing, website and newsletter content development: actively work with the Associate Director to maintain and augment Simone Center internal and external awareness and brand.
Planning, organizing and execution for key events, including the annual Entrepreneurship Conference, Tiger Tank Pitch Competitions, Idea Lab, and other events.
Project management: development and management of playbooks for Simone Center programs-scheduled on an annual basis
Support relationships through promotional efforts in consideration of key Simone Center, Saunders College of Business and RIT stakeholders including, but not limited to: students, alumni, faculty, staff, committees, and corporate partners.
Perform a variety of administrative tasks including: funding tracking, team statuses, monthly project reports, Entrepreneurship student office space management
Support of large Volunteer Entrepreneurship Mentoring Network
Support and advancement of student and faculty early stage incubation programs
Knowledge of budgeting and financial system tracking
Strong candidates will have a demonstrable history as a proactive worker with self-starting skills.
Department/College Description The Simone Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a dynamic organizational unit designed to promote experiential, multidisciplinary innovation and entrepreneurship activities. Its initiatives primarily focus on students but include faculty. The Center's active programs include an early stage student incubator, a full-time student accelerator, IdeaLab programs that link industry problems with student problems solving teams, faculty early stage startup assistance, makerspace training, business plan and innovative product contests etc. It also manages a robust volunteer mentor service, a high volume student makerspace, and a faculty innovation council. The Simone Center reports to the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Provost's Office.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
One to six years related experience in a setting involving innovation or entrepreneurial-related activities. Note:This could include startup companies, established companies or the higher education environment.
Demonstrated experience in defining, implementing and managing business processes and managing events.
SKILLS
Ability to work without direct supervision
Ability to work with student employees
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneous and to work independently, as well as part of a team
Demonstrated success in the use of technology to drive project improvements
Technically savvy with the ability to understand and guide a broad array of system and process improvements
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong customer service focus
Adaptable to a changing environment
