The director of brand reports to the associate vice president, marketing, and is responsible for leading the implementation of integrated marketing and brand coordination for Carnegie Mellon. The director will lead brand programs and rollouts that build continuity and brand compliance while supporting the broad marketing strategy of UCM. The Director of Brand leads enrollment marketing efforts on behalf of UCM in coordination with our partners in enrollment/admissions, and supports development of marketing plans in coordination with the Director of Strategy.
The director will ensure that marketing/brand efforts align to the university's brand blueprint and effectively communicate the university's strengths and differentiated advantages.
Your core job responsibilities include:
- Lead and develop a team focused on brand excellence.
- Lead development and implementation of marketing plans for university-level initiatives and priorities.
- Leads marketing research efforts specific to key content priorities (ex. AI) to prepare marketing recommendations for appropriate marketing messages and vehicles. Serves as a steward of brand integration in all aspects of client business, including various campus clients both external and internal.
- Develops brand guidelines in partnership with creative studio, ensuring cohesive visual articulation of Carnegie Mellon's brand.
- Cultivate effective working partnerships across divisions, functions, levels and colleges/units.
- Foster a culture that leverages proven practices, audience insights, test and learn strategies, and measurement to fuel effective marketing practices Lead and develop a team of marketing/brand, experience professionals focused on internal brand alignment and prospective student marketing efforts.
- Provide brand consultation to academic colleges and administrative units to support the efficacy of their marketing efforts and promote alignment with the university's brand blueprint and marketing programs.

- Special projects as assigned unrelated to primary responsibilities previously listed. Examples include the AI initiative, Mehrabian Collaborative Innovation Center dedication and the Rwandan Presidential visit- managed an integrated marketing effort from liaising with internal/external vendor partners to managing production of event materials, signage, photography, etc. to anticipate expectations of donors, college/school colleagues and senior leadership.
- Staff Development - Develops and maintains knowledge of successful marketing communications efforts. Works with Office of Admissions on recruitment campaigns directing development of new creative collateral and oversees prospective student messaging efforts through management of enrollment marketing team. Provides guidance and mentoring for Associate Director of Admission and other marketing communications personnel in admissions and within the marketing communications team.
- Budgeting, Forecasting, Analyzing and Tracking Goals - Forecasts revenues and costs; tracks and analyzes accounts receivable; develops budgets to support client/team objectives and plans.
- Leverages brand messages for recruitment through marketing communications collateral, video, web and events for various campus locations and initiatives. On an annual basis strategizes with select pre-college program coordinator(s), drafts interview questions, coordinates and conducts interviews and scripts and edits video for pre-college recruitment efforts (in partnership with digital productions team).

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required, Master's degree preferred.
- At least eight years of work experience.
- Prior experience working in higher education marketing/brand management, with progressively responsible roles.
- Management/supervisory experience.
A successful director of brand will be:
- A seasoned marketer with experience leveraging audience and market insights to develop marketing strategies and plans that are aligned with identified goals.
- A collaborator who has an analytical, curious, creative, and solution-oriented mindset and relies on metrics and data to inform, optimize and improve marketing and communications efforts.
- A channel-savvy marketer with experience maximizing prospective student audience reach and engagement using modern, multichannel, and integrated approaches.
- An experienced manager with proven experience providing guidance, leadership, and coaching for the brand team.
- A strong communicator with experience building partnerships with groups of internal constituents to achieve shared goals, including the ability to advance the strategic nature of the conversation about marketing initiatives.
- A strategic integrator who both sparks and brings together ideas, individuals and plans to advance efficacy and efficiency of marketing efforts across the university.
- A confident communicator with excellent active listening, writing and presentation skills and experience working directly with senior leadership.
- A proactive, self-starter who can progress multiple priorities and projects simultaneously through direct engagement or the leadership of others (indirect and direct).
