Position Summary
The purpose of the Technical Marketing Trainee position is to develop skills and to provide experience in the marketing of research discoveries. Under the supervision of the Director of Communications and in collaboration with the Office of Technology Management business development and licensing staff, the trainee researches and executes marketing campaigns on new WashU intellectual property and engages industry partners in potential licensing opportunities.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Researches potential intellectual property marketing strategies by engaging with individuals at other academic institutions and industry.
Learns the Cayuse Invention software platform and utilize the software for marketing campaigns for new WashU intellectual property.
Prepares one-page marketing sheets for market campaign purposes, identify contacts, and run marketing campaigns on new university IP. Ensures that marketing sheets meet the requisite level of quality.
Learns and manages the tracking metrics associated with the departmentâ™s marketing campaign efforts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Some business experience in private industry or an individual with an MBA degree in educational background.
Understanding of marketing intellectual property, either in a university or a private industry.
Ability to assess the potential for a nascent technology in the commercial arena.
Excellent communication skills and be able to prioritize and manage the assigned marketing case load.
Exceptional and demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service to internal and external clients.
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree in the life science/biomedical/medical/engineering areas or equivalent work/education combined experience.

Salary Range
$48,700.00 - $80,500.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
