The Office of External Relations is a highly collaborative team committed to a community-centric approach to development and alumni relations. External Relations includes a fundraising group, alumni relations group, and donor relations/marketing group.
As our team has evolved over the last several years, we have identified an opportunity to leverage the skills of our talented Donor Relations colleagues more broadly by reimagining the Donor Relations team as Advancement Marketing. Our aim is to more deeply engage stakeholders with dynamic and effective integration of our alumni relations and fundraising strategies through cohesive marketing led by a new Director of Advancement Marketing.
In close collaboration with the Associate Dean for External Relations, the Director of Advancement marketing will help lead the team's transition from Donor Relations to Advancement Marketing. Currently, the team includes 3 assistant directors, a project manager/designer, a data analyst, and an administrative coordinator.
This position is remote eligible, but preference may be given to candidates based in the Bay Area or willing to relocate. Remote candidates should be prepared to spend as many as 10 weeks annually on campus throughout the year.
CORE DUTIES*:
*Develop and execute marketing strategies and marketing plans/programs to meet departmental and organizational objectives.
*Recruit, manage, develop, and retain Donor Relations/Advancement Marketing staff.
*Manage the execution of communication strategy for multiple programs incorporating appropriate channels (i.e., web, digital and print).
*Foster partnerships with other schools, departments, services, program/event and/or channel manager, including SLS Communications, OOD Development Communications, and other peers at Stanford.
*Assess market opportunities, track market trends, and introduce best practices in marketing to both development and alumni relations delegating to associate/assistant directors the tasks of building tools or toolkits that can support marketing efforts across the department.
*In collaboration with Associate Dean, set budget, goals, and objectives in alignment with organizational goals.
*Build and advance a community of candor and trust.
In Partnership with Development:
*Design and implement of creative, consistent, and donor-centric acknowledgements, donor reporting, recognition, events, and/or communications programs for school/unit donors.
*Design and execute annual fundraising campaigns that especially focus on securing unrestricted gifts and planned gifts to SLS; primary stakeholders include the Director of Development, the Associate Director of the Law Fund, and the hundreds of SLS donors who make gifts as a result of our direct mail program.
*Design Gift Menus & Custom Proposals that support Major Gift Officers and the donors they support as they navigate discussions about six- and seven-figure gifts to key SLS priorities.
In Partnership with Alumni Relations:
*Oversee the development and execution of marketing efforts for SLS Reunions, a marquee event for SLS Alumni Relations; aim to continually increase alumni attendance; key stakeholders include the Alumni Relations team (especially the director), planning committees, and all SLS alumni celebrating their reunion in a given year.
Oversee the development and executing of marketing efforts for SLS-sponsored Regional "All Alumni" Events (as opposed to alumni chapter sponsored events)' key stakeholders include the Associate Dean for ER, the Director of AR, SLS regional volunteers and the staff who support them; key outcomes include robust attendance at key events that bring SLS leadership and faculty to key cities on a semi-annual basis.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated marketing management skills and the ability to work effectively with decision-makers across many levels of an organization.
*Extensive knowledge of strategic analysis, customer segmentation strategies and business and marketing planning.
*Highly detail oriented with strong ability to understand constituent needs and lead teams toward a common goal.
*Strategic thinking and leadership skills.
*Proven track record with branding, integrated marketing strategy, messaging and positioning.
*Excellent project manager with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
*Excellent written and oral communication skills.
*Demonstrated experience presenting to senior management.
*Ability to motivate, develop and train staff.
*Prior experience in planning and managing budgets.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
*Occasional work on evenings and weekends.

The expected pay range for this position is $132,000 to $159,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
