We are seeking aMarketing and Communications Specialistwho will support the development and execution of marketing strategies and campaigns for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, with special attention paid to enrollment marketing efforts. Additionally, the Marketing and Communications Specialist works across the Office of External Affairs with members of the Editorial and Content Strategy teams to help produce content for a variety of platforms including social media and the School's Global Health NOW newsletter. Target audiences for this work will include prospective students, faculty, staff, donors, partners, and other target audiences locally, nationally, and internationally. The Marketing and Communications Specialist is supervised by the Marketing Strategist, and they sit on the Audience and Marketing team in the Office of External Affairs led by the Director of Audience Development.
The two primary focuses of this position will be to support enrollment marketing efforts for the School's master's degree and certificate programs, as well as consistent production of editorial content for the School's website and subscription news services. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will also have opportunities to work with the School's multi-channel content production teams to help produce content for social media and video platforms. To accomplish these goals, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will work in close coordination with the School's admissions teams, academic program managers, and other communications and marketing associates within the School's 10 academic departments. The role will have direct contact with faculty and researchers to generate and review editorial content, and the role will often interface with students and others on campus to research marketing opportunities and develop content (e.g. cover events). The Specialist will have direct access to the School's digital marketing tools, including Meta Business Suite and Google Ads among others.
In addition to being an excellent writer, the Specialist must be an organized and versatile team player who can look up and analyze metrics related to digital ad campaign performance, website traffic, and social media performance, and contribute to marketing and content projects of many types.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Working closely with the Marketing Strategist and members of the Editorial and Content Strategy teams, the Marketing and Communications Associate will,
Marketing
Write enrollment marketing content for the website, emails, and other formats as needed. Help strategize distribution opportunities for this content to support enrollment marketing efforts.
Create original social media posts utilizing design software (e.g. Adobe CS), and manage paid social media ads for enrollment marketing and brand awareness.
Pitch and help produce video projects relevant to enrollment marketing goals, in partnership with the team's video production manager and others.
Advise on and execute marketing strategies and tactics at the School, department, and program level, with a focus on enrollment marketing for Schoolwide master's programs.
Propose and execute marketing content ideas for the School's flagship website, including updating the School's homepage to communicate key messages and priorities.
Use Looker Studio and social media monitoring tools to evaluate and report on performance metrics of landing pages and enrollment marketing ads.
Research target audiences, advertising platforms, competitor schools, etc.
Manage and update key admissions dates in Content Planning and Communications Trello workspaces; help identify opportunities for content marketing.
Execute communications and marketing plans for key recruitment events, symposia, and projects at the School.
Coordinate with communications and marketing colleagues across the School, as well as admissions and academic program teams, to conceptualize, apply, and scale marketing strategies more broadly, including guiding others and building skills and capacity.
Help internal clients identify and execute marketing strategies for their work.
Assist with management of vendor relationships, and support Marketing Strategist in administrative tasks related to invoicing, purchasing agreements, etc.
Support enrollment marketing by photographing School admissions events (Admitted students' day, orientation, etc.) to use for marketing collateral.
Editorial
Proofread and copyedit diverse materials and communications, including emails, web content, and social posts, in adherence to the School's editorial style guide. Serve as one of the editorial team's designated proofreaders and copy editors, able to assist with projects on an as-available basis and with as much advance notice as possible.
Assist with writing and digital production for the School's email newsletters, website articles, social media posts, and other marketing and communication projects as requested. . Cross-train and develop skills in MailChimp, Drupal, and other software to achieve this goal and support the editorial team on an as-needed basis.
Regularly pitch ideas for the School website, including Q&As, explainers, articles, and other content that could directly advance marketing, or fundraising goals.
Website & Misc.
Review and approve changes to the School's website using the Drupal content management system, ensuring adherence with the School's editorial style guide and content best practices.
Support other major initiatives of the Communications and Marketing team as needed.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications
Proven implementation and current knowledge of marketing tactics, across web, digital, graphic, video, social media, and traditional platforms.
Marketing or communications background in higher education, health, science, or journalism.
Experience or interest in public health or higher education.
Past work in graphic design, video production, and/or web design.
Familiarity with Slate, CRM, and Drupal.
Early adopter of new media, social trends, and technology.
Desire to grow and be challenged within a team.
