The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability (SDSS) seeks a Director of Marketing to oversee and direct internal and external marketing efforts for a complex school with multiple stakeholders and audiences. Leading a team and working with staff colleagues and faculty leadership, you will create and implement integrated strategies to disseminate and amplify the vision, knowledge, and bold aspirations of the school to inspire and inform prospective students, alumni, donors/prospects, media and global leaders across public and private sectors.
This position reports to the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer. The ideal candidate will have a passion for higher education and the expertise necessary to multiply the school's impact through world-class marketing strategies. You will possess deep experience launching successful campaigns, programs and brands, and be a hands-on expert and contributor in creative design, branding, photography and videography.
The ideal candidate must be flexible and agile; able to handle a large volume of projects; possess a high EQ; successful experience working with senior leaders; and have at least 15 years of experience managing a full-service creative agency or an in-house marketing team. You will consistently nurture innovation and creativity, and will mentor, motivate, and develop our talented staff. This candidate will exhibit professional presence and unwavering integrity, and a commitment to strategic leadership and collaboration.
In this role you will:
Work closely with the CCMO and SDSS leadership to translate the school's vision and team's OKRs into actionable and quantitative marketing plans and strategies to build the SDSS brand globally as a trusted, respected sustainability institute.
Design and drive the visual and multimedia brand strategy and brand personality for SDSS and its events.
Design and manage all visual touch points: theme, taglines, presentations, reports, collateral and digital properties.
Hands-on creative including design, photography, videography, podcast and editing expertise from concept to completion.
Produce top-tier work moving between print, video, audio production and web design workflows.
Expert proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Audition and Logic Pro
Lead art direction on all new video assets, graphics, etc. in support of larger goals
Manage and roll out identity and marketing editorial guidelines
Oversee video and photography strategy to ensure high quality, alignment on brand guidelines
Build and oversee strategy and growth plan for social media presence.
Working with the Director of Communications, create campaign themes and designs based on editorial and event calendar.
Redesign Intranet homepage
Roll out new visual identity on Intranet
Provide video tutorials
Redesign website, manage and maintain.
Ensure ADA compliance
SEO optimized
Create and manage new website governance structure
Work with Editorial team to identify featured content on website
Create and manage new channels, including and not limited to:
Additional social outlets
Podcasts
Responsibility for department operations including the recruitment, management, development, and retention of staff.
Select and oversee the department vendor relationships.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience managing or running a full-service creative services agency or in-house team.
Proven ability to achieve an organization's vision, values and programs through marketing initiatives.
Demonstrated experience leveraging integrated marketing strategies to achieve goals.
Strong marketing management skills and the ability to persuade and influence decision-makers across all levels of an organization.
Exceptional strategic thinking and leadership skills.
Proven people manager, with the ability to motivate, grow and train staff across functions.
Prior experience in planning and managing department budget.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated experience presenting to senior managers.
The expected pay range for this position is $184,431 - $230,000 per annum.
