Position Summary
The Director of Marketing/Communications leads a dynamic portfolio of work and serves as a strategic advisor to ensure successful execution of priority integrated marketing and communication efforts, delivering excellence without exception. Develops, executes and manages promotional strategies and tactics to support mission and priority activities, driving community relevance, storytelling and lead generation across the University Services portfolio. Provides strategic counsel to University Services departments, including conceptualizing strategies, partnering on teams to develop action plans, participating in integrated planning, removing barriers and enabling execution to bring those strategies to fruition. Advances the Universityâ™s mission, goals and objectives by raising market awareness and University Serviceâ™s customer service focus. Sensitivity to confidential matters, a high level of professionalism, tact and diplomacy are paramount.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and lead University Services brands and channels, including websites, presentations, remarks, correspondence and strategic communications. Create and manage vibrant, innovative and compelling communication and engagement deliverables to ignite change, activate alignment and foster a strong, inclusive culture. Identify and create opportunities for visibility and connection in the university community, St. Louis region, higher education and industry. Â
Conceptualizes, leads, and executes University Services marketing and communications campaigns consistent with University strategic priorities. Provides analysis/ROI of efforts as needed/appropriate.
Analyzes marketing strategies, market penetration, share of voice, etc. to determine ROI and inform future planning with a focus on community relevance and, where appropriate, lead generation. Reports findings and recommendations to University Services leadership.
Leads and manages an integrated omni-channel marketing and communications strategy within University Services, including social strategy, content creation, storytelling and digital promotions to drive and enhance operational results.
Ensures alignment of strategies with the Universityâ™s goals and objectives across social and digital promotions.
Serves as a cross-functional marketing advisor for University Services activities and opportunities.
Leads marketing and communications efforts for University Services. Works collaboratively with University Services teams.
Maintains a keen sense of higher education and Washington University to support market activities.
Models and fosters behavior that establishes a culture that values the customer and customer experience, and is consistent with the values, goals, and mission of the University to create an atmosphere of excellence without exception.
Ensures that marketing and communications strategies reflect the diversity of the University and the St. Louis community and creates and reinforces an environment of inclusion.
Foster external relationships in the Greater St. Louis region, in higher education and across University Services industries. Maximize connection with community and industry, amplifying the University Services brand and reputation. Partner with Public Affairs for support and consistency.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree, MBA or other advanced degree.
Ten plus years' experienceâ‹.
Experience in a fast-paced, large non-profit or public or private sector organization supporting an executive-level individual or team.
Knowledge or experience in administrative, campus services or other related operational areas.Â
Significant project management experience on behalf of a complex organization.
Superior research, analytical, planning, organizational skills, and detail-orientation.
Strong customer-service orientation.
Ability to manage multiple projects, and competing priorities while adhering to deadlines.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently, exercise mature professional judgment, and use discretion.
Comfortable in team-oriented environment based on open, transparent, continual communication, information sharing and inclusive decision-making.
Open to feedback and professional development.
Capable of âœmanaging upâ to ensure deadlines are met and priorities kept.
Demonstrate utmost integrity and respect for confidential information.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to act as resource for other staff.
Required Qualifications
Bachelorâ™s degree and five years of related experience in the area of strategic communications, brand strategy, issues management, public/media relations, marketing or related field.

Salary Range
$63,900.00 - $109,100.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
