The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of Marketing Production, the Marketing Production Traffic Manager (MPTM) will work with the Marketing Department to contribute to the design and development of new and existing email marketing campaigns for our entire educational portfolio, as well as support other School of Professional Studies (SPS) departments with email communications operations.
The incumbent will help to develop and deliver email to our prospects that is informative, engaging, and well designed. Successful candidates should understand the basics of HTML development and be interested in email marketing. The position requires extreme focus and attention to detail, along with the desire to work with a team of dedicated marketing professionals.
The MPTM will be required to work closely with academic program staff to provide accurate and timely marketing email that reflects each program???s unique voice and features. The incumbent will communicate with program administrators and leaders to present draft material, accept revisions, and review final messages for approval. They will also liaison with academic and administrative departments to communicate technical aspects and limitations of the Email Management system. The MPTM will be responsible for managing teams of interns and casual staff to help develop and execute the communications plan, including scheduling, task assignments, and guidance on content and layout.
The MPTM will ensure messages are developed in accordance with the school's brand guidelines and use content developed by the Marketing team. Other responsibilities will include email deployment from the EMS, automated campaign development, and prospect database list management. The incumbent will also draft competitive assessments and contribute to design innovation in school communications and manage technical documentation for training new junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Liaison with academic programs to ensure messaging aligns with academic program features
- Manage casuals and interns to develop email templates that adhere to Columbia SPS brand guidelines and academic program requirements
- Maintain and execute the email marketing communications plan
- Work with institutional staff at all levels to provide respectful and insightful responses to inquiries about messaging
- Segment audiences in the Slate database
- Schedule highly targeted email blasts, including final review and QA pass
- Assist in testing templates for deliverability and visual quality across a variety of email clients
- Help troubleshoot issues with rendering of messages based on the limitations of various common email clients
- Prepare variations for A/B testing and execute test plans
- Ensure and enforce communication standards including compliance with the FCC's CAN-SPAM Act and vendors' Terms of Service
- Follow communications calendar to ensure template development and email blasts occur on schedule
- Provide email metrics and reports to marketing team and program staff in an ad hoc capacity
- Examine reports on program email metrics and use that data to suggest improvements tailored to each academic program
- Maintain and distribute training documentation
- Recommend email marketing tactics based on data findings
- Analyze drip campaign success and prospect database trends.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor???s Degree required
- 2 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with CMS or Marketing Automation systems (Salesforce, Pardot, Slate, etc.)
- Knowledge of HTML coding practices for email
- Database development experience (MS Access, SQL, etc.)
- Familiarity with project management tools (Basecamp, Jira, etc.)
- Experience working with Higher Ed portfolios and educational environments
- Experience working with a technologically connected, but physically distributed team
- Proofreading and/or copy editing skills
- Experience with Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, or Illustrator.

- Exceptional attention to detail, strong organization and time management skills, and the ability to perform non-routine work with changing priorities
- Knowledge of, or desire to learn about; email client limitations, responsive design trends, and communications best practices.
