Job Summary:
This role is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies, requires a creative and strategic thinker, to promote the College's programs, research endeavors, and achievements to various stakeholders including students, faculty, alumni, donors, and the broader community. They will also lead a team of professionals to create a dynamic online and social media presence for the College. Coordinate closely with the University's Marketing, Messaging and Engagement Office to ensure a synergistic approach to creating and maintaining a sophisticated, message-driven, results-oriented communications and marketing program.
Essential Duties:
- Develop, execute and maintain key, data-driven communications and marketing strategies for the College of Science.
- Create a continuum of tailored activities that reverberates across a wide variety of key audiences and platforms.
- Continuously assess and adjust strategies to ensure alignment with changing priorities and market trends.
- Develop and package compelling faculty, student, and alumni stories that reflect the depth, impact, reach and potential of the College of Science.
- Highlight research, achievements, and events within the College. These stories will appear online, in the University and College magazines, in video, on postcards, and in other publications.
- Coordinate closely with the University's Marketing, Messaging and Engagement Office to create a synergistic approach to maintaining a highly functioning, message-driven, results-oriented communications and marketing program.
- Supervise the College's communications coordinator.
- With the College of Science Director of Development, develop and manage regular communications targeted to alumni, donors, and the corporate community.
- Work closely with the College's department chairs to develop and inform communications strategies across the College of Science and to assure continuity of mission and message.
- Manage the College of Science's website and online presence.
- Ensure that the site accurately reflects the complexity and reach of a dynamic college with high aspirations.
- Create compelling and persuasive narrative and ensure that the site is accurate and current at all times.
- Supervise the College's webmaster and multiple student content creators and editors.
- Develop stories/articles, op-eds, and other external media opportunities for faculty, students, and the dean and work in concert with the central University Communications office to develop strategic pitches.
- Manage College of Science events for students, faculty and staff, alumni, outside groups and other College stakeholders.
- Supervise the College's Events & Alumni coordinator.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve internal communication within the College community.
- Keep faculty, staff, and students informed about important updates, initiatives, and opportunities.
- Develop and manage the marketing and communications budget for the College.
- Allocate resources effectively to achieve strategic objectives while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or closely related field with five plus (5+) years in marketing and communications field or the equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree with prior communications and marketing experience in higher education and/or research institutions.
- Exceptional knowledge in the latest digital and integrated marketing tools including Google Analytics.
- Ability to write compelling and effective communications as well as ability to participate in professional associations and speak on behalf of the college.
- Outstanding communication skills.
- Experience in developing and pitching media stories.
- Experience in production of educational recruitment collateral and content.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement new strategic initiatives.
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team, and manage multiple priorities to ensure high-quality work in a dynamic, deadline-oriented college.
